Introduced by DJ MURANAO

This is a column where people who are both self-confessed “travel lovers” and “experienced travelers” introduce their “top picks” that they discovered when they stayed at NIKKO STYLE NAGOYA.

<Cycling around Nagoya with tokyobike>

Traveling by bike is fun!
And if you can ride a stylish and comfortable bike, it’s even better.

The rental bicycles at NIKKO STYLE NAGOYA are made by tokyobike.
They’re not too sporty, so you can ride them comfortably while enjoying the city. When you sit on the saddle, you’re in a slightly forward-leaning position, and once you start pedaling, you move forward smoothly, making even small hills easy to climb!

That said, there are hardly any steep hills in the central part of Nagoya. Additionally, the roads are laid out in a grid pattern, making navigation easy.
These are just a few reasons why we recommend cycling for getting around Nagoya.

Rare among rental bike services, junior bikes (suitable for heights 115–130 cm) are also available, making family cycling a fun option!

From Nikko Style Nagoya, there are many famous tourist spots that can be reached by bicycle, such as Sakae, Nagoya Castle, and Osu Shopping Street, but accessing places that are difficult to reach by subway or bus is also a unique pleasure of traveling by bicycle.

So, in this article, I will introduce some tourist spots that are recommended for cycling!

【Kouya Bridge】*Location of the photo on this page
Kouya Bridge spans the railway tracks near Nagoya Station. The view of the skyscrapers of Nagoya Station and the wide open sky from here is breathtaking! Although it’s a large bridge, it’s exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists, so you can enjoy it at a leisurely pace.
Various trains also pass by frequently, so it’s a must-see for train enthusiasts.

【Shirotori Garden (Shirotori Teien)】
Shirotori Garden, a Japanese garden where you can enjoy seasonal plants, is also a popular spot among Nagoya residents. When heading here, we recommend taking the peaceful and pleasant path along the Horikawa River!

It’s about a 20-minute bike ride from Nikko Style Nagoya. If you continue a bit further, you’ll reach Atsuta Shrine, a popular power spot.

【Shimizu Area (in Kita Ward)】
The Shimizu area in Kita Ward is gaining attention lately. It is home to secondhand bookstores, bakeries, coffee shops, record stores, and more. The Kinjo Market hosts charming events centered around art and books. Kyukoku-ji Temple, which features Taro Okamoto’s “Bell of Joy,” is also nearby.
