Vol. 12 “Ohitori (Me Time) Anniversary Plan”

“Ohitori Anniversary Plan”

Introduced by Natsuki Kirimoto

This is a column where people who are both self-confessed “travel lovers” and “experienced travelers” introduce their “top picks” that they discovered when they stayed at NIKKO STYLE NAGOYA.
This time, we introduce a special lodging plan for “Ohitori-sama” (this means a person who enjoys solo time in Japanese), that has received tremendous response since its launch in April 2025.

A whole cake for one!? A continuous series of happy events starting from check-in
You might think check-in is just a routine task, but the staff handed me a message card with the words “Good job, me.”
I also received various reward amenities like bath oil and headed to my room.

After settling in, it was cake time.
What arrived was a whole shortcake served in an Adelia Retro stemmed glass!
Getting to devour an entire cake alone felt almost sinful, yet it was the most blissful moment.

Solo dining sharpens the senses
The optional “Solo Dinner” offered quiet revelations.
When you savor things in silence, your taste buds naturally sharpen.

For instance, you can fully appreciate even the fleeting “bitter-sweetness” of young ayu fish liver as it passes your tongue.
I was surprised at how I could thoroughly taste even the most delicate flavors I’d normally miss.

“Solo = Lonely” is a misconception
When dining alone, you might feel a bit self-conscious about others’ glances… I think many people feel that way. But this time, I didn’t feel it at all.
I later realized my seat was in a corner. What’s more, it was perfectly positioned so other diners barely entered my field of vision.

An open kitchen lay right before me, and simply watching the finished dishes being carried out was a pleasure.

I felt no loneliness whatsoever, purely enjoying the flavors of the food.
Perhaps the image of “alone = lonely” stemmed from being overly concerned with “how others see me.” This dinner, where I could focus entirely on myself, was a refreshing experience.

Luxurious solo time continued back in the room
Returning to the room, amenities awaited to enhance “my night alone.” First, a relaxing bath time with bath oil chosen from 10 varieties.
After bathing, I relaxed with a “room drink” of my choice and accompanying snacks.

I devoured volumes 1-6 of the manga “Ohitori-sama Hotel” borrowed from the lobby.

My days are usually child-centered, just sleeping and waking… so being able to savor a quiet night like this… It was such a precious chance, I felt it was a waste for the day to end, and I ended up staying up late 🙂

Morning also had a setup for enjoying time alone
In the morning, they delivered a free drip coffee maker to my room. (Note: Coffee beans sold separately)

I tried brewing it myself, following the easy-to-follow video guide for beginners. The very act of grinding the beans myself and hand-dripping the coffee was soothing.

Sipping my coffee slowly, I opened the bonus “Ohitori Nagoya Map.”
The cover features a retro-cute girl illustration that got me excited even before reading.
Packed with discoveries even I, a resident of Aichi, didn’t know, it was the kind of book that makes you want to grab a pen.

“Solo” is a form of luxury
What I felt during this stay was that “solo ≠ lonely,” but rather “solo = rich.”

Whether it’s your birthday, a personal celebration, or a small milestone, the “Ohitori Anniversary Plan” gives you special time to focus on yourself.

*****

While many hotels offer “anniversary plans,” the “Ohitori (Me time) Anniversary Plan”—launched in April 2025—surprised even us with its unexpectedly huge response. It’s a plan centered on the concept of “celebrating yourself,” something that seemed like it should exist but didn’t until now.

It took several months from conception to launch, navigating various twists and turns, to create this new plan specifically for solo travelers—a need that clearly existed.
During the planning phase, our staff’s enthusiasm ran high—“We want to include this and that!”—risking a package that might restrict guests’ stay styles (and impact pricing). That’s when “Maro,” the solo travel producer known for the original concept of the popular comic “Ohitori-sama Hotel” (featured in Mr. Kirimoto’s column), stepped in. She proposed numerous ideas for user-centric concepts and perks. One such idea was serving a celebratory, single-serving decorated cake atop ADERIA RETRO tableware—a design that soothes the heart regardless of age—to create a special moment.

Celebrating milestones with someone is truly joyful.
But what about an opportunity to express a heartfelt “thank you” to yourself, the person who matters most?
We sincerely hope you’ll use this plan to enjoy a wonderful solo time for adults.
(This plan isn’t limited to women, so men are also welcome to use it!)
